Representative Dan Frankel proudly serves Pennsylvania's 23rd legislative district, which is anchored by the historically Jewish neighborhood of Squirrel Hill. He is the Democratic Chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Health Committee, where he works to expand access to health care. First elected in 1998, Representative Frankel championed legislation to bring equality to Pennsylvania's LGBTQ+ residents, expand women's healthcare options, and install sensible gun regulations. In addition, he is a member of the State Employees’ Retirement System Board and the Governor's representative to the Board of Trustees for the University of Pittsburgh.

After the 2018 synagogue shooting in his district, Rep. Frankel assembled a coalition of community and faith organizations to fight for updates to Pennsylvania's hate crime legislation for the modern era. In 2023, he founded the Pennsylvania Jewish Legislative Caucus to advocate for the anti-hate crime legislation and other issues of importance to Jewish communities across Pennsylvania. In previous years, Rep. Frankel served as president of the board for what is now known as Jewish Family and Community Services, chair of the board for the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition, chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council, and served as a board member for the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.
